Barcelona Mayor met Wednesday with former Minister Greek Finance to discuss democracy in Europe. Τhe meeting was attended by First Deputy Mayor of Barcelona, Gerardo Pisarello and Varoufakis’ wife, artist Danae Stratou.
Ada Colau explained that the purpose of her meeting with Yanis Varoufakis was to discuss democracy in Europe and to co-ordinate efforts towards reclaiming Europe’s democracy on behalf of Europe’s peoples .
Colau announced her encounter with the Greek politician through her Twitter account, describing their meetings at City Hall as a joint statement that: “Another Europe is possible and we will make it come into being from below.”
The meeting took place a day before former Minister Varoufakis was due to address, at the invitation of the City of Barcelona, a large audience on the theme: “Discussing European Democracy”
Ada Colau, Yanis Varoufakis and Gerardo Pisarello will be amongst many Europeans who will work together to reclaim European democracy throughout the European Union but also at the level of cities, communities and regions.
